Yo, since this blog was originally created as an online journal, I've created a new blog. I'm going in a different direction, and touching on broader issues than a did 3-5 years ago. If you've enjoyed my recent posts here, you should go to my new blog. I've moved my newer posts over there, and will continue updating over there. I may or may not continue using this blog here... if I do, it'll probably be more self centered and journal like. That was the original purpose of this blog, and it served me well.

What Lynne has learned: Keyboard Cat

This is something I've stumbled across tonight while those little slices of death evaded me. It's a meme that's been going around, keyboard cat. The setup is this:

1) clip of FAIL
2) Keyboard cat plays its cheerful, catchy tune... mocking said FAIL

It's just that easy... and yet highly entertaining to watch. Below is the best I've seen so far. Watch more clips here.



So, what have I learned?

- FAIL + Keyboard Cat = LOL
- Jesus is Christmas. The mother seems to think the Jesus she believes in died so that we could carry on with our consumerist ways and buy gifts we can't usually afford.
- Even Keyboard Cat can't erase away the FAIL that is going to occur with our credit cards. Catch the story here if you don't know what I'm talking about.

HI! I'm a Megan...

What does Apple do to appeal to females to boast sales? (Besides recognizing that women are just as capable of looking at the specs, not the color and design, of a computer?) Why, it's to make a "dating" computer commercial of course!



So... is Apple going to start selling Megans? Will they be pink and exclusively marketed to women? Only time will tell!

The last bit was sarcasm, but truthful, since Dell has already done the whole marketing laptops to women deal. You have to dig through their "della" website, about 3 pages deep to just get past the fluff and frills to the actual specs (hard drive space, RAM, other capabilities, etc). Yes... Dell made a separate website called Della, another company reinforcing the gender binary that society instills (tries to anyways) in us all. Well, I reject it Dell. Anybody with real knowledge of computers knows it take more that a fancy cover to make a laptop l33t.

So go ahead Apple, market to women. You're going to have already anyways. I just hope you don't do what almost every other company does... reinforcing the preconceived differences between men and women. I must say though, you're off to a decent start. The woman is wearing comfortable clothes and it asking questions about the specs of the PC, nothing too technical though, but better than nothing. I just hope your next commercial DOESN'T sound like this...

Man: Hi, I'm a Mac
Woman: And I'm a Megan, Apple's new computer made exclusively for chicks!
Man: Oh, sounds cool, what can you do?
Women: I have an assortment of fashionable designs to match any style!
*Woman cloths change to show off pink, flowery, and frilly designs that are stereotypically loved by females.*
Woman: Don't I look pretty in pink! *smiles, kicks up a high heeled leg, and gives high pitched giggle*
Man: *whistles* Wow, looking good there.
Woman: Thank you. I'm thin, light weight, and pack 8 hours of battery life for your pleasure. Also, I'm fully customizable and upgradable.
Man: Really? Let me try. *Her breast grow, and clothing shrinks*
Woman: *gasps and make and "O" shape with her mouth*

Pro CHOICE: It goes both ways btw

I often hear (to my face and directed at others) about how being Pro Choice is bad/evil/selfish/etc. Here's an interesting spin on the subject, post at Feministing: click here for the story. The women, Elizabeth Adeney, is 66, and choose to get pregnant, though she was advised not to (which, I understand the risks the doctor was putting forth, but ultimately, it is her choice). This is a side of the pro choice argument that receives little coverage, though it is just as important to protect a women's right to have children.

Roe Reversal?

I'm am highly surprised that I haven't heard more about this from the numerous feminist blogs and sites I regularly read. I first heard about it from a coworker of mine, and I though he was pulling my leg... until I saw the video clip of Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe from Roe vs. Wade ) denouncing abortion. Apparently, I've been out of the loop from a while now...

And I never knew. Of course, everyone should be able to make whatever decision they believe to be best in regards to her/his body, morals, etc. I don't believe even Jane Roe should personally be held in disdain for changing her thoughts towards abortion. I do, however, believe everyone should have the right to make their own choices about what to do with their own body. And she is now fighting to erase a woman's right to her own body. Even though this may be old news to others, this comes as a total shock to me. With President Obama in office, I'm not worried about a federal ban on abortion getting passed, but could this potentially turn the tide in the future? It is indeed a scary proposition...

Anime Con >^.^<, 19th B-day, and Sickness :-(

The anime con was freaking awesome! Diamond spoiled me way too much. (yeah yeah... I know it was my first con and 19th birthday.)I have 4... well 5 actually anime hats. 3 are homemade. There is a Wolf's Rain one, a kitty one, and a kilala one. The other is a reversible hat from Fruits Basket. I also have a kick ass Sess bag. Unfortunately, I got sick on Sunday, felt bad on Monday, and I couldn't go to school today. (It was that bad... lets just leave it at that) I still feel sick now. As soon as D-dog cleans off the bottom bunk, I'm going to go sleep. Still waiting... Anyways... more about the con... There was stuff going on 24/7 for 3 days straight. Artist's Alley, Anime Video rooms, panels, karaoke, live bands, game room, DJ's, cosplay, voice actors (Zelgadas was there! and I have his signature), and more. Well, Diamond is done. More later. Friends and Taxes...

Yay... thanks to help from D-dog and Turbo Tax, my state and federal taxes are all done. >^.^< Now, all I need to do is mail em out and do my local taxes. (This was the first time I ever had to really file anything. Last year was a breeze since I wasn't working yet.) *yawn* Time for bed now. *sigh* Tomorrow is my last day of spring break (w/o work.) The week has gone by way too fast.

Oh yeah, almost forgot... yesterday, Na`na` and I hung out together, ate ice cream, and went to the movies and today Meg, Daemon, and I went out to the mall, played DDR, ate, and went shopping. I had I moment of weakness in one the stores and bought (and bartered for it too!) something that I love... and I'm sure D-dog will like it too. I keep taunting him with it... hehe... he won't know until tomorrow what it is. Anyways... it's really time for bed. Night.

Anyways, today might be the day I drop a class. I'm meeting with my advisor at 10AM today to discuss it. I'm not looking forward to it, but something needs to be done. *sigh* I hate failing... Maybe I'm just over reacting and it isn't as bad as I make it sound... maybe....

I reminded my family (Dad and D-dog) yesterday that spring break is next week. Both of them looked at me with blank faces... figures... I guess I should have reminded then more, but I thought if I told them well in advance (I told them a month or so ago) that they could take off a couple days and we could do something. I guess I can alsways pick up extra shifts at work... what a fun spring break for me. At least I won't have school to deal with.

*holds stomach and curls up* Ugh... I don't feel too good today. I slept through my alarm (either that or it just stopped going off) and was late to Physics. Now I feel sick. *sneezes* Oh, great... the fun just keeps getting better and better...

Dad's 40th and Mass

Well, in ya'll didn't know, the 28th was Dad's 40th birthday. (OOooo... big 4-0) Anyways, we went to the Los 3 Amigos to celebrate and Mimi and I got my Dad the exact same card. Lol... The card had like 10 different ways to say someone's turning 40 on the front and inside it says something like "I'd go on, but you probably want to kill me by now. Happy Birthday" It was a good birthday and Dad definitely does NOT look his age.

Yesterday was Ash Wednesday. I don't know it everyone knows, but I attend a catholic college. I'm not Catholic, or any denomination for that matter, but one my friends invited me to mass. So yesterday was my first time as mass... ever. It was extrememly crowded, but the service wasn't bad at all. I had my friend Anne right next to me so that I ask her about anything that I didn't understand. Oh, and I even talked D-dog into coming with me too. >^.^< I'm also thinking about participating in Lent this year. So far I haven't had any red meat or chocolate... so I'm thinking about giving up one or both.

STRESS! and Quiz thing

I just got done with back to back Calc II and Physics exams. In case you don't know, these are my hardest classes, and the exams always come back to back. I've come to a deciosion. Unless I do better on both exams (compared to the previous exam) I am going to drop the class with the lowest exam grade. I'm not very optimistic about the scores either and I'm not sure which I screwed up more... all that's left now is to wait. The only upside to this is that when/if I drop a class, it won't effect my GPA and I'll still be a full time student (that way I can keep my scholarships). Oh, and then I can concentrate on one hard class and do better.

Today in general has just sucked. On the upside, D-dog comes home earlier on Wednesdays and we're going to Sess's for dinner. (It'll be the first time for me to see her new place) I hope I get to see Na`na` too...

V-day and Rusty

V-day was a blast... well, actually it was the ides of February to be exact, but whose cares? D-dog wrote out about 10 poems and hid them all around the house. Each poem was a riddle that I had to solve to get to next. And each poem was in a plastic heart with something like "I love you" or "Sweetheart" on it. And there were little gifts next to some of the clues. All together I got some 100 Grand fun size bars, 9 packs of gums, fake/real looking roses (there won't die on me!), a card, and an extra dark Hersey's chocolate bar. Plus, he took me out to eat. We went to Thai 9 at first, but they're closed from 2:30 to 5 for some unknown reason, so we grabbed some chicken from KFC. Hehe. I have the sweetest boyfriend.

Yesterday wasn't so much fun. I went through the day, and had two exams, thinking in the back of my head that Rusty (my German Shepard) was going to be put to sleep. I got home soon enough so that I could go to the vet with my dad and D-dog ended showing up at the last minute. As it turns out, Rusty has really bad allergies, which a causing a bad ear infection and skin problems. So now he's on two antibiotics and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Okay, g2g. Exam and homework... you know how it is....

Grr... what is it already!!!

D-dog has this V-day surprise for me.... the only problem was that Mimi, Papa, and Dad all got home early yesterday, so now I have to wait til later today to find out what he's ploting. I hate not knowing what he's up to, but even more, I hate the delay. Grr. Anyways, more on this later.

*sigh* Currently I'm typing up my Exam paper from philosophy. 2-3 pg on the meaning of life by critiquing Nagel's and Socrate's point of view and including my own and 1-2 on Tronto's political theory. And I have a Chem exam tomorrow... *sigh* Back to work.

Sick and and Tired....

of being sick and tired... (Sick and tired= ugh... don't make me go into all... that's just TMI for ya'll)

I went to bed sick, woke up sick, crawled to physics class sick (I was so slow that I was a couple minutes late), took a nap in the commuter lounge sick, forced myself to eat while sick, and now typing while sick... well, that's my day so far. I have going to Calc and lab while sick to look forward too and getting broken by the chrio while sick too. Then its homework and random crap while sick. I haven't felt right since 2005, I'm sick and tired of this sick shit.

Okay, I'm done bitching.... about being sick anyways. D-Dog has jury duty today. I hope that he doesn't get caught in the justice net and forced to serve for months... It makes me glad that I never got around to registering to vote. *sips dew and prays for the end of the school day*

Thank you D-Dog for putting up with me. I've been a bitch lately. I don't mean too, I feel like shit. And ty for the foot and neck rubs too! >^.^< Best of luck to you and getting out jury duty.

Flashdrive Found!

Yay! I'm so happy. Today has actually been a good day... with the exception of the usual 8AM Physics class. When I checked my e-mail today, I had a message from UD saying that a flashdrive had been found back in January and their investigation led them to believe that it was mine. Hehe. So I went across compass... WAY across compass... To pick it up. It still works fine. The only difference is that part of the loop connector thingy has broken off... which is probably how I lost it in the first place. Anyways... Yahoo isn't cooperating today. Grr. Oh well...

Um... Update... I'm still sick. My nose is drippy and I feel like crap. (Partially from being sick... Partially from having a screwed up neck... partially from lack of sleep) *yawn and sniffs* Trig sub still sucks. I just don't get it. Imagine your worst math experience ever... then multiply it by like a goggle goplex.... yah... that's trig substitution...

Well, I better go. Lots of school crap to do... not to mention work tonight. *sigh*

Uncle Orson Revews Everything

Another game I saw recently is called Katamari Damacy (Playstation), which has taken Japan by storm. When I describe it, it will sound so weird you'll wonder how it could be fun. But I promise, it is.

It reminds me of nothing so much as a great scene from Robert Stoddard's classic musical Giraffe Story, in which one of the characters says, "I had a terrible dream last night. I dreamed that somebody had cut me into little pieces, and I had to go around and pick them all up."

That's Katamari. What you do is you move through the world rolling things into an ever-larger ball. You start with little things -- scraps of paper, clips, pens. They simply stick to your katamari ball as you roll over them. You bounce off anything too big to pick up. But as the ball gets bigger, you can pick up bigger things. So if you move through a school, for instance, you start with scraps but end up rolling over (and picking up) desks, chairs, students.

The designer of Katamari, Keita Takahashi, made the game as a kind of parody of or rebellion against videogames. It feels far more like play than most videogames. Videogames, after all, are about solving the problems the designer has laid out for you. Essentially, the game trains you. And while Katamari has a bit of that, too, it mostly consists of garbage strewn about and it's your job to pick it all up.

It really is like a kind of nightmare -- only you're the monster.
